Resurrection Dunk

My friend was supposedly an incredible basketball player, but I was having no trouble keeping up with him in a one-on-one game, and I was starting to question his ability. Then he made a move that changed my mind. He made a move so astounding I knew he had been holding back. He dribbled a cross-over so deep, so fast that I was left frozen in place, dumbfounded, as he went around me to score. I knew at that moment he had been toying with me. That move revealed his true ability and my true fate in the game–he could win any time.

Christ’s resurrection is that same kind of dominant move. The resurrection is a slam dunk. It is the move that demonstrates God’s power and might and glory. It’s the move that tips His hand and shows He’s got a full house. Christ risen from the grave shows Jesus is the victor, the vindicated, the beloved, the almighty one. The resurrection tells us He can do whatever He wants whenever He wants.

And because we are co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17), we know His fate is our shared fate. His blessings become our blessings. So if Jesus is resurrected from the dead, then, if we are in Him, we will be resurrected from the dead too. If he received a new redeemed, resurrection body, then we know we too will receive new bodies.

So then on Easter we celebrate Christ’s resurrection for what it demonstrates (revealing His true ability) and for all that it guarantees (revealing our true fate). Happy Easter!
